…today’s secret…It’s that time of the year.

Thomas Jefferson authored our Declaration of Independence. He was inspired by the philosophical writings of Locke, Montesquieu, and Rousseau.

Tom’s belief was that we are created equal and have rights just because we are born. He gave examples.

Tom also believed the role of government is to protect and preserve those rights, and, if it didn’t the governed could demand a do-over.

Tom said it a little better than me.

The Founding Fathers who signed Tom’s document knew they were flawed individuals. Every signer in that room knew that slaves and women were nowhere close to being treated equally.

That’s why their Declaration of Independence became, arguably, the greatest vision statement in the history of mankind.

It told the world and future generations that this new civilization could be different than any previous civilization on earth. They knew their vision to be a one-of-a-kind where serious work would be needed going forward.

Part of that work comes around every November with our elections. It’s where we, the citizens, decide if the government is fulfilling their responsibility as stated in the vision or maybe a do-over is in play.

Regardless of your opinion, please vote in the upcoming election.

Tom would have wanted that.
