…today’s secret…Measuring your electric words.

Words are the most powerful force in your universe.

They are electric when used right.

God spoke the world into existence. Words have planted seeds of revolutions and started wars. Leaders are remembered for their words. Words caused our Founding Fathers to risk their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to defend them.

Do your website words shock a little or do they lay there uncharged? Do your promotional literature words carry any emotional voltage? Your social media? Your onboarding processes? Do they inflame any hearts and illuminate any minds?

Want answers? There are three word-measuring-tools that can help you.

Clip some words you have banged together from your organization’s literature and test them against these three tools.

Promise. You will be surprised.

  1. Customer Focus Calculator:

Enter any website URL page into the Calculator and it will tell you what percentage of your words are focused on you and what percentage of your words are focused the people you are trying to inform, persuade, or help.

Today’s PAS® Secret has a self-focus of 17.78% and a customer focus of 82.22%. Excellent!

  1. Carlin Ad-Speak:

Ad Speak comes from the world of advertising. These are polished words that deliver no information or relevance…like superior service, friendly staff, years in business, family owned, etc.

Ad-Speak comes from a George Carlin comedy routine. After a 2 minute and 33 second YouTube you will know Ad-Speak as well as you know your name. Come on, take a couple of minutes…

Copy and paste some sample writing from your website, promotional literature, etc. into the Carlin Ad-Speak and it will tell you how many of your words and phrases are, well, just meaningless.

Today’s PAS® Secret rates ‘low’ in the Carlin Ad-Speak. The only ad-speak keywords in Today’s PAS® Secret are the sample phrases I cited above.

  1. Automatic Readability Checker:

Copy and paste some sample writing into this program and it will calculate the number of sentences, words, syllables, and character in your sample. It will then tell you what grade level you are writing at and the reading ease of your copy from 0-100.

If your reading ease is around 10 you are extremely legalized. Around 90 you are at comic book level.

I try and keep my writing at 8th grade level or below and my reading ease at least 60.

Today’s PAS® Secret has a Flesch-Kincaid grade level of 5.8 and a Flesch-Kincaid reading ease of 73.8.

After you score samples of your words, you may want to bang them differently to be more focused on others, more purposeful, and more readable.

I can give you in an e-mail six tips on how to become your own word expert.

Or, if you are too bone-weary to take the time, send me your website address and I’ll score it for you. No charge. No commitment.
