…today’s secret…How PIXAR can help you raise money.

Pixar is an animation studio that makes movies. Toy Story. Monsters, Inc. The Incredibles. Finding Nemo…many more.

The first thing the PIXAR people do is develop a storyline.

I have long been fascinated by PIXAR’s storytelling pitch. Every one of their movies has the same format.

Here’s Nemo’s PIXAR pitch…

ONCE UPON A TIME there was a widowed fish named Marlin who was extremely protective of his only son Nemo. EVERY DAY Marlin warned Nemo of the ocean’s dangers and implored him to swim far away. ONE DAY in a act of defiance, Nemo ignores his father’s warnings and swims into the open water. BECAUSE OF THAT, he is captured by a diver and ends up as a pet in the fish tank of a dentist in Sidney. BECAUSE OF THAT, marlin sets off on a journey to recover Nemo, enlisting the help of other sea creatures along the way. UNTIL FINALLY, Marlin and Nemo find each other, reunite, and learn that love depends on trust period.

You are an organization helping people work and play well with others. It would serve you well, including financially, if you could use PIXAR’s format to better communicate how you do what you do and who benefits what.

Spoiler alert…I’m going to challenge you to write your own PIXAR storyline.

Here’s one of Right Time’s PAS® PIXAR pitches…

ONCE UPON A TIME there were thousands of organizations helping marginalized people face the obstacles in their life. EVERY DAY these organizations intervened into the lives of their participants through programming, work, education, and/or counseling to help them work and play well with others. ONE DAY these organizations finally realized the advantages of inserting their participants’ voices into their intervention. BECAUSE OF THAT they began using Right Time’s innovative PAS®, a simple way to identify and report on a participant’s internal dynamic information. BECAUSE OF THAT organizations improved their outcomes and decision-making while achieving quicker rapport with their participants. UNTIL FINALLY, these organizations could provide statistical proof of their efficacy that helped them secure future funding.

Spoiler alert 2…still going to challenge you…

Here’s another Right Time PAS® PIXAR pitch…

ONCE UPON A TIME there was a huge labor shortage in the United States. EVERY DAY business recruiters hung hiring signs, posted to online job boards, and/or hired temp agencies in hope of finding the right applicants to grow their business. ONE DAY a few smart business leaders realized there was a large untapped labor pool among unemployed and underemployed people who had criminal records. BECAUSE OF THAT they inserted Right Time’s innovative PAS® in their application process. BECAUSE OF THAT recruiters were able to successfully screen out undesirable applicants, screen in applicants who were ready to work, match new hires to their future supervisors, and even identify what support they would need post-hire. UNTIL FINALLY, other business owners realized how second chance hiring could help grow their business, gain market advantage, help grow the economy, help those who deserve another chance, and help solve society’s mass incarceration problem.

Now, I challenge you to develop your PIXAR storyline pitch for your organization. Here are the key sentences starters:

Once upon a time…
Every day…
One day…
Because of that…
Because of that…
And finally…
